Look at the article at www.geofex.com on parametric EQ made easy.  Now look at those transistor sections hanging off the inverting input of IC1a and IC2a.  Okay, now look at the diode pair to ground and plain vanilla gain section in IC1b.  Basically, the FX-86 is a Distortion+ with some resonant boost prior to clipping, two fixed resonant boosts post-eq and a 3-band EQ section.

Mmm you're right... :)

Well these things make miracles :)
i'vent built a dist+ (i've built a JYM308... the same thing with a 4558 and a smaller input cap.. ) but listening to the Dod Fx86 demos on musiciansfriend web site... it really rocks :)

So... i'll give it a try :D
