Title: Phase 45 sound clip?
Post by: gez on May 16, 2004, 02:35:21 PM
Could have sworn there was one over at runnoff but it appears not (probably was axed to make way for all those damn FET amp-simulator circuits!!!)  :D

Anyway, can someone link me to a sound clip?  I googled but didn't come up with anything.

The clips at RunOffGroove were moved recently, here's the p45 one:

I have a couple at my "site", the quality is rather poor, and my build is loaded with mpf102's instead of the stock 2n5952.

Thanks Gringo those clips were really useful!  Is the Phase 45 making all that hiss in your samples or is it a result of the recording process?  Not a criticism, I was wondering how the 45 is for noise/hiss?

I'd say the hiss/cliping is from the dreadful combo "weak soundcard preamp"+"let's kick it up with a mosfet boost at 10". Playing in front of the computer doesn't help, either.

In a real life situation, my p45 is very quiet with the stock tl072's. The mpf102's subtle sweep also makes the "swoosh" less perceptible when you are not playing.

Mine is dead quiet. I really like mine a lot, though it has recently taken a back seat to my Easyvibe. The thing that is so great about the Phase45 is that you forget to turn it off because it is so unobtrusive, and complimentary to clean rhythm playing. Everyone should have one.

I used 2N5952s also. If you use Tonepad's PCB layout, the pinout is backwards if you use 2N5952, for most every other JFET their pinout is correct.

I've been really testing out the 45, it's in a box with two of my Faves, a HOT Si', and an SD-1/MiniBooster . Besides Phaze, It's like a 'Pre-Fuzz-Smoothie" [smooths Boosts, and OD's as well].
