Title: Noise problem...
Post by: crawler486 on May 19, 2004, 01:30:09 AM
I got 5 cloned effects in one enclosure being supplied
by "9v Ultra Clean Power Supply" from GGG.
I'm just wondering why there is a very noticeable noise swell
when I put the enclosure to the ground. The enclosure
when placed on a table has an acceptable level of noise.

The base of my enclosure is made from plywood with
aluminum sidings and top cover.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Shield the bottom. Use foil, fine meshed screen, whatever.  Report back after that.  If you only want this pedal for bedroom usage, you might be fine; but I'd definitely shield it for gigging.  Clubs have a nasty habit of actvely wiring in an unpleasant, aggressive manner.

Shield the outside bottom, or the from the inside?

It doesn't matter, as long as the circuit is completely enclosed, and the entire shield is grounded.

You might also try to find out what is causing the interference.  There is a spot in my house that has so much crap in the air that I can't run any signal near it, shielded or not.
