I'm a newbie here. I've built plenty of electronics equipment over the years, but never any stomp boxes (I didn't start playing guitar until I was almost 46!). Where is the best source for heavy duty foot switches? I haven't decided what I'd like to build first, so I'm not looking for any particular type, just a general source.
thanks,
John
Welcome to the forum!
Now, what sort of switches are you looking for? If you want to build an effect box, then you want to buy a triple pole double throw (3PDT) switch. For one of those, read the first message in this forum for one good source, and for another go to small bear electronics (http://www.smallbearelec.com/) as they have a good stock of lots of switches. 3PDT's allow true bypass (so no signal loss) and LED indication of wether the effect is on or not. If you want something cheaper go for a heavy duty double pole double throw (DPDT switch), again available at small bear (BTW they also sell effects kits so thats good.) if you want to replace switches in already made FX boxes go to small bear and look for replacements by brand, and if you want to fix an amp footswitch get an SPST latching from small bear. Hope that helps

Thanks for the info - I'm not sure what I'll build first, I'm just doing some preliminary info gathering - I've bookmarked Small Bear's web site.

You can get those blue 3PDT switches here from Aron too. :D
Howdy!!!
You could not have picked a better time/place to build Stompboxes :D
Welcome !!!
Suggestion below...
At least a good percentage of us love boosters, as a first build, they come highly recommended, and provide you with something you will most probably use Alot...[ I do ].
Fetzer Jfet is at Runoff Groove, or LPB-1 at GGG...[I think parts are available from RS, but there Are better places to shop for parts, expecially if you like money]. Either build should be low cost, and will provide a good learing experience, with a great less chance of bumming you out for extended periods of time, but you'll have that some days]...
...I've been working on a tube build...all the live long week!!!!! :D
Weber VST (http://www.webervst.com/store/sword.htm)
