I just finished R.G.'s Neutron. Plugged it in but all I get is the sound of my guitar -- no effect. I unplugged the powersupply and still got the sound of my guitar! This seems very odd to me, I feel the circuit should need power (like any of my other commercial pedals, if i unplug them i lose the signal). I used hammatsu photoresistors and a 5k trimpot for Rx. I'm powering it via a 9v adapter. Any one out there have advice on how I could start troubleshooting this? I'd really appreciate it! I've double checked all my solder points, pots don't need to be grounded right?
You best bet is to build an audio probe (see the DIY FAQ) and trace the signal until it goes away. A probe can make things super easy if you're lucky.

The switch is part of a DPDT that switches the range of the filter from low to high by clipping additional capacitors in parallel in two of the integrators in the filter. It should be shown correctly in the wiring diagram documentation. What level of the docos are you working with?
