Title: Rangemaster troubleshooting.
Post by: zenpeace69 on June 07, 2004, 06:58:38 PM
Hey people...  I just threw together a rangemaster on perfboard using the Fuzz Central schematic.  Couple of odd things.  The pot is working backwards.  Also, there isn't any appreciable boost.  It actually weakens the signal a bit.

I used the schematic here:

I used a Rangemaster transistor from smallbear. It was a hitachi 2SB77

One thing looked a bit odd to me onthe schem is the way they have the 9 volt battery clip wired.  Does that look right?

any help would be appreciated

thanks

Ack!  I think I have the transistor in backwards... Lemme check if that helps.

 I had the transistor in backwards.  I keep forgetting that I am looking at the bottom of the transistor when I look at the data sheets.

It works!  Woohoo!  My second build complete in record time (1 hour and 15 minutes).

I am pretty pleased with the way it sounds, too.  Not too shabby.

Thanks for considering giving me advice if you come into this thread.   :)

I like a 2n3906 or some run of the mill PNP for Rangemaster fire ups and troubleshooting.
I just don't know where to put this addendum, that helps prevent reverse polarity on yer 'fancy' Ge's, tho seems they sometimes take a little bit without becoming noisy/hissy.
