Title: Capacitor marking diagnosis
Post by: Tony Forestiere on June 08, 2004, 11:37:04 PM
Hi Y'all,
Is there a link to capacitor marking decriptions or designations? I have several junkbox Caps I cant figure out. When i bought some greenie .047uF caps, they are marked "473k". Do you take only the first two digits and divide by 1000?

Confused again,
Tony

I keep a copy of this near my work area.

I hope this helps.

They are in pico farads.  Add the zeros to the back
47000 pF which is .047 uF.  "k" is +/- 10% tolerance.

BTW This may be obvious, but to convert pico to micro just move the decimal point six places to the left.

47000. -> .047000

nano's in between (3 places) 47000. -> 47.000

Thanks to all,
Some of those links makes it all clearer :idea:
It's too bad a DMM doesn't measure capacitance like it does resistance!

Take care,
Tony
