I started my new project this week, it is a multi-effects pedal that will incorperate abunch of the ROG Emulater's, I hav'nt decided on how many as of today, but I must before cutting and bending the Aluminum housing that all of this will be installed in,.
I'm calling this pedal the TROGG, in paying some Homage to " T.he R.un O.ff G.roove G.uy's " for there great work on these great sounding pedal's,
I'm gonna post picture's at the Photobucket and if all goes right I'll have the Pic's and voltage's of the total build on my Webb page which I have postponed until I get a new T-1 phone line installed, my old 1 is giving me problem's, Schem's and soundclip's can be found at ROG,
I'm in process of starting on the power amp first, it's 6X6L6 150 watt Yamaha, same as the PV, It'll be pushing 4 or 5 different speaker cab's until I find the right combination of cab and speaker's., If anybody has any info or Idea's and would like to offer some input I would be very Grateful,
Happy Trail's, :D
JD
I just want to say best of luck on your build! 8) 8) 8)
That sounds like a fairly ultimate amp!
Take care,
-Peter
JD, have you considered using something like PAIA's frac-rack system? A 4 knob ROG Emulator should be able to fit in the 1.5" panel, use a 3" panel for a 5 knob emulator, with a in-out bus/ switching system running across the back of the enclosure. It would then allow you swap in/out new ROGG boxes if desired.

Thank's a bunch, I was worried about that part of it, I got a good plan and I've got 3 of the Emulater's on 1 board, and enough room on this full sheet of Perf to get 7 Emulator's in total, Plus I'll want to build a Wha and a Volume pedal for the right hand side of the unit, I'm Righty Even When I'm Wrong, New Country song,
I'll go check it out, Might just be the Cat's Pajama's !

JD
The Fracrac look's good and the hardware look's great, price's are very good on the power supply's, thank's for the info,
JD
I finished perfing 3 of the Emulater's today, all 3 biased out correctly, need lot's of 50 k & 100 k trim pot's for this project, will try to finish Master Board over the weekend, still need a system for switching, I need it to switch from pedal to pedal by hitting any other stomp switch, this will take some thinking, I need it to unlatch the on pedal and latch the new pedal I stomp on at the same time, HMMMMMM! I'm still thinking Potter Brumfield 9 pin relay's, for now, til I see a better way.
Happy Trail's, :D
JD
I have 5 of the Emulater's populated on 1 master board, 2 more to go, I also dug out the amp chassie that will be the power for this system, I'll take pictures today and post them at photobucket if my camara still work's ? I also dug out the 6X10 Silvertone speaker cab I will be useing for this project til I can determine which speaker combo sounds best . I will be replacing the old vintage speaker's in the cab with Jensen Mod's, if you have never tried these your missing out, I get them for 19 buck's ea. and they do sound good, can't believe this but they sound better to me than the Alnico Jensen's I pay twice as much for.
Stay Tuned,
JD
Well the boarb is populated, with the Fetzar, Thunderchief, Professor Tweed, Supereau, English, Uno, and Matchbox, http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Lonrstarjohnny/IMG_1470.jpg http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Lonrstarjohnny/IMG_1484.jpg http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Lonrstarjohnny/IMG_1472.jpg I'm waiting on trimmer pots and a rotory switch to come in and I'm in process of looking for a wedge shaped housing to put this, power supply's, switching system and
a few other controllers for other affect's in,
I was donated a PV Mace VT serie's amp chassie that has had a major blow up at one of the 6 power tube socket's for the basis of power for this project by a friend, http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Lonrstarjohnny/IMG_1480.jpg http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Lonrstarjohnny/IMG_1481.jpg I'll be removing and replacing the octal socket's with Amphinol ceramic tube socket's, Plus I'll off the burnt circuit board and go point to point on the Socket's. the pre amp on this amp is loaded with 18 different 8 legged chip's, mostly Dual Cha, N- Cha. J-Fet's and a couple of house no. switch's , and a few 4885 opamp's, all of these I'll replace with my choice of upgrades. plus I'll rebuild the power supply on the amp with better quality filter cap's
Great Job JD!!!
Gotta give us some sound clips later on !!!!!
Peace!
Arn C.
Wow! Pretty mind-blowing, not to mention quite flattering. Thanks for sharing the photos, I eagerly await more reports!
that's alot of perf.....
Hey Mr. B, If it were'nt for all you great guy's here on the Forum I sure would'nt be havin so much Fun, The ROG guy's have thier stuff ' Together"
for sure,
Thank's to all here on the forum, stay tuned, more to come with sound clip's in the near future.
:D :D :D
JD
Cool photos. I'm waiting for your review of all of them.
**sings* I've got big balls
He's got big balls
BUT...
JD HAS THE BIGGEST BALLS OF THEM ALL
**/sings**
Damn jd, that is a serious project! cant wait to see final pics
Hope you don't mind, JD, but I think I'm gonna follow in line (as soon as I get the cash together :x) and do something similar. I won't be using tubes though, I'll be using an LM3886 as my power amp.... Gotta build a freakin cab yet :D
Yup, lots of stuff to do.... Fun!
No problem for me Ben, all I can tell ya is, it's a lot of fun perfin that many circuits on 1 big board, keep us posted on the build,
and if ya need some inspiration just check back on my build, I'll be postin more pictures of my cab, amp, and Emulater as I go.
JD
Well I'll be doing it over the summer holidays, so it'll take a while since I'm off to sunny France for 4 weeks :D But yeah it's gonna be great... what about switching though? I guess a DP4T rotary should do it, only that means a million wires to and from the board :D
sounds cool Ben, I'm thinking of useing a analog switching system, I'm not interested in mixing any so all i'm looking for is to engage 1 at a time and trip off any other pedal that is engaged with one stomp,
I may add a Tube Driven Buffer to warm the tone up on my PV amps, if I do it'll be in the area of a 6CF7 probably, these make good driver's, low gain is needed for this type of buffer I want to build.
and now I'm looking at how to mod and control the built in Phase on the PV mace amp, I know it won't be a true Univibe tone but being able to loosely emulate the sound live would be cool for me.
Lot's of stuff for me to do, But I just Love it,
I may not win but just competing makes it all worth while.
JD
They make em' bigger in Texas.
RDV
Ricky, I moved here in 79 and now I are 1,
and until you've tried 1 of those 100 oz. Tejas style Steak's, you never been to the Table,
JD
you can take the boy out of texas,
but you cant take the texas out of the boy.....
i miss home somtimes... :)
Fella from Austin flies into LaGuardia, and takes a cab into Manhattan. The cabbie is driving him around, and in their conversation, finds out he's from Texas, so he decides to point out some sights to him.
"See that? That's shea stadium!"
the Texan responds "Aw, we got bigger stadiums than that in Texas."
The cabbie is a bit miffed, but as they wind their way through the city he tries again: "Over there is Grand Central Station! Pretty impressive huh?"
the Texan responds "Aw, we got bigger ones than that in Texas. It ain't that impressive."
The cabbie is pretty irritated by this point, as they drive past the Chrysler Building, and decides to keep his yap shut.
The Texan looks up, notices that the cabbie isn't saying anything, and finally bites:
"Well, what's that?"
"Huh? Oh, I dunno, wasn't here yesterday."
Quote from: JDI may not win but just competing makes it all worth while.
What exactly are you trying to win? ;)
hey j.d.
you ought to name the amp T.R.O.G.G.DOR after the dragon
on www.homestarrunner.com
now that would be cool....
Ben, Ive got a lot of experiance at what I do, trouble shooting and repairing electronic's, still there are device's out there that I have no knowledge about, but to learn and understand as much as one can is the race, you can never be the winner in this race but you don't have to finish last.
Casey, That's a Very Kewl Dragon, I'd love to call it that, but I think somebody might do more than Flame my ol' Butt,
JD
Well JD, one day, one day I'll become as knowledgeable as you... And try to win the race anyway 8)
Why don't you e-mail the homestarrunner crew and ask if you can use the name "Trog Dor - The Burninator" :D I've been watching that site for a couple of months now, I think it's insanely funny
Ben, with an attutude that is very positive sounding, YOU may just be the GUY that will win it, and I'll be Rooting for ya ! I'm a little to old to win it, but I still love to learn something new as often as possible, and Here is a big melting pot of knowledge for me to draw on, My thanks to everyone for sharing this Delight with me
I may just do the checking in to the Dragon thing, I went over there and had a look, I like him, he's so bad, he sure would look good on the front of any pedal board.
JD
Finished rewireing the Tube section on the Mace tonight,
http://img69.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Lonrstarjohnny/IMG_1492.jpg
I decided to off the Burnt Circuit board and use standoff's and rewire it point to point, after adding some NOS tube Socket's I replaced the 100 ohm 5 watt resistors, and the 47K ohm bias resistors, ran heater voltage wireing, and wired in sec. side of the output transformer, tomorrow I'm hopeing the houseing for the pedal control center will come in.
I'll post some pic's of my test board I made for all the pedal's to be mounted to while I tweak each one for the best tone.
I'll try and get all voltage readings down on each pedal after it is tweaked, I have been sort of adjusting each tranny to 4.5 v. on the J201's and then lowering this or upping it to make it sound right for my rig.
JD
JD,
So, what did you finally come up with for the switching betwen all the pedals(T.R.O.G.G.)?
I also am thinking of building an all in one unit!
Peace!
Arn C.
With 4 or more preamp structures to choose from, I'm wondering what the switching arrangement will be. Rotary switch? Sequential switch? One-of-4 pushbutton (like an old car radio)?
What sort of strategy do you have in place for mid-song footswitching, or do you see this as more of a set and forget until you stop playing sort of thing?
Mark, right at this moment I'm testing and tweaking each pedal on a test board and by tonight I hope to be finished with that part of this project, I have looked at a pushbutton setup, that's mechanical and I also have some 24 V. potter brumfield 9 pin relays that I may try useing, just getting a system built that has no lag would be great, I have thought about useing a Middi Buddy also, and rack mounting everything, I'm hoping also one of you guy's with all the thinking power will bail me out on this problem, any Idea's at this moment would be great,
I just got the amp working and I was very happy with it's outcome, I replaced the bad tube socket's for the Fender bolt on style and point to pointed the wireing, recapped and no tube's, I got 465 VDC on the B+ and -47.4 VDC on the Bias, I believe that'll work out very nicely for a clean loud amp.
Thank's for you input

T.R.O.G.G.-DOR the BURNINATOR amp.
that link reminds me of what I saw in a link of somebody who tried
to publish a Z-VEX schematic...
