Title: Runoffgroove´s ONE Build Report
Post by: Fernando Aguirre on June 14, 2004, 04:58:27 PM
I have just finished the runoffgroove´s project ONE, based on the Mesa Boogie mk1 amp.
I have used j201 fets.

They have done a great job, AGAIN!!. Very warm sounding, very Santana.
Creamy distortion and sustain, enough gain for that type of sound (that kind of sound Mesa forgot long time ago IMO).

The tone controls can be very tricky since one affects the other considerably.
At high tone settings it can get muddy, but with all in about 7 it creates a very nice fuzz type sound as an extra.
Be careful when dialing the Bass knob, this is the very tricky one.
Like in all old Mesa amps, write down the settings you like because when you move one little thing your achieved tone dissapears and it is difficult to find it again.
You can hear every note when playing chords and it cleans nicely with the guitar knob.
Thanks to the guys at runoffgroove fur such a great job.

I have a Mesa boogie studio Preamp which have the ¨old¨Mesa sound but with ridiculous amounts of gain.
How possible is to emulate it using j201s? I think that maybe puting too much fets will make it very muddy sounding. What do you think?
