chuck zwicky was prince's engineer for a couple years (batman period).  he told me that most of prince's pedals were boss, except for a colorsound inductorless (twin-t) wah.

The new Guitar Player Magazine has a Prince article in it. He's on the cover and there is a brief description of his set-up. And yes, if I remember correctly they are mainly Boss pedals. Sorry I don't have it handy to take a look at.

Now, I am a HUGE Prince fan and I would have said a Boss Distortion but check with the real experts:

Good luck Paul. It is amazing how he sounds as good as he does wth all Boss stuff...

I have a sneaking suspicion this will be a bit like finding out what Billy Gibbons uses....

I can't see anyone as secretive as his purpleness hanging around music stores or NAMM exhibits to try out obscure vintage or new boutique designs, so the use of fairly standard tried and true pedals like the Boss line seems entirely plausible, though ZV is obviously in a much better position to know.

Probably important to recognize that the signal provided by that Hohner Tele clone is somewhat unique as far as Tele's go.  Those folks who own the same Boss pedals and mumble "I've got one of those and no way can I make it sound like *that*" should consider what he uses the pedals with before assuming it *couldn't* be them.

Of course, then there is the matter of how much soul is in them fingers.

What I can't understand is how someone with so much chest hair could have such a bloody hard time growing a proper moustache!!
