Title: Real McTube, one more question then i'll build it.
Post by: lightningfingers on June 26, 2004, 04:28:54 PM
Sorry to keep posting about this but I want to absolutely sure about the power supply issue, so I don't cook the tube.

If I put the second transformer (the step-up one) can I just wire a regular power supply jack then use a wall wart?

If so how might I wire the Jack?

cheers  :)

Erm...why an AC wallwart? don't you need DC for the heaters..... :?

The second transformer needs an AC input to work...

When I built my Shaka Tube, I used a 13VAC wall wart with an isolated power jack - the AC part takes care of the tube heaters and then it is rectified and then the voltage is doubled and distributed to the rest of the circuit. This works out nice because the transformer is not actally in the same enclosure as the rest of the circuit, which solves a lot of problems.

But, the Real McTube uses back to back transformers, so I don't know how you could do that practically with a single wallwart.
