Title: Perf Question
Post by: lightningfingers on June 29, 2004, 04:11:05 PM
Does charred perfboard conduct? Like if a component burns out or you burn it with a soldering iron will the burnt part cause a possible short?
I read somewhere that PCBs do this and wondered if it  was the same for perf. I build EVERYTHING on perf. :)

My own perf generally comes out "well done" rather than "rare", and I've never experienced the problem you describe.

Even IF, the resistance/conductance will be a function of distance travelled, so just space stuff a little further apart and whatever conductance might exist will be reduced.

To the best of my recollection, carbon is at least slightly conductive:

"Electrical conductivity     0.727 1/mohm-cm"

Yep --the conductors in your spark-plug wires are carbon.
