Title: wiring up a kill switch (momentary and locking...)
Post by: Narcosynthesis on June 30, 2004, 07:14:17 AM
right, i want to wire up a momentary kill switch into a stompbox...

i have a momentary (push to make) spdt, so how would i wire it to kill the sound? i was thinking to wire it so that normally the input/output are connected, but when its switched, it will attach either the input or output to ground (which i think should kill it)
so which way round should i wire it? input going to ground to kill it, or output going to ground?

and looking at the switch, it says on the packet its a spdt switch, but the switch has 6 contacts... so how are these all wired together? have i managed to get a dpdt switch instead?

also, i want to wire up a locking kill switch, i have a dpdt switch, so i was thinking of wiring it as the momentary one, but since its a dpdt switch, are there any better ways of wiring it?

this is what i have atm...

im just not sure which way round theinput and output would be attached to the switch (so it dosent cause popping or anything)

and also how to properly wire a dpdt switch as a kill switch (or should i just do it the same way?)

I can't help you but I would like to know how you get on with this project because I've been thinking of a pedal that can kill the sound on and off with varying speeds depending on a pot setting, you know like setting the volume of one pickup to 0 the other to ten and then flipping the pickup selector between the two ala Tom Morello...except I want to be able to do this via a pedal.
