i'm building a home made all tube amp to drive my new 2x12 vintage 30' box that i'm about to build too...
and i have to wait for the output trannie and output tubes and some stuff, so i though i could make a decent solid state guitar preamp only for clean sounds...
since i have a 100w SS rack power amp in my basement, why not drive it with a SS preamp with a decent clean then trough the already mentioned guitar box...
the tube amp will take a 3 more weeks to even get started (long story), and i can make this thingy in a few days, even have a rack chassis to put it in, lots of parts at home (power trannie, resistors, caps, op-amps), so the only thing to buy would be input/output jacks and pots...
any ideas?

for a solid state guitar preamp that delievers decent clean tone, has gain, volume, mid, treble, bass controls, no reverb and can handle Boss DS2 for good distorted tone...
yep it's a bit lame, but regarding the speaker cab i think it could sound quit okay. i don't expect anything spectacular...
i remember playing a roland jazz chorus 2x12 combo 4 years ago once... i think it was solid state, sounded okay...
under okay i presume it has a "okay" clean and when using a distortion pedal infront, the highs don't smash my ears and the tone ain't muddy...
:)
any ideas welcome!

iirc, the jc-120 and distortion do not get along well...
For a project that took me about an hour to wire up, The Little Gem MkII, [or was that the Ruby?] anyway it has the Jfet buffer on it and it's schematic 'n Text is at Runoff Groove, Sound Samples available.
I was just running two of them in stereo, good high end, crunches quite well with a New Clipper into 12AX7, each a nights build, [PS for 12AX7 ..I had handy, a 30VDC printer W.Wart], really sounds great with some reverb/echo. The 12AX7 accepts other effects very well, I like having that around., really warms things up alone.
I made a 10 minute heat sink from:
2''x2'' 'fanned out' piece of copper sheet
1 piece of wire for around/under the OA, one side soldered to the copper sheet, the other side through the hole..
Super Glue
This only seems necessary for OA #2 on the first amp [?] Results must vary...
With your speaker the amp should sound good, I'm using Magnavox Console 8'', and a 'Thrusters' cabinet for the other amp....which needs to have it's tweeter poked out
