Title: Mxr Distorsion+ : any known common mod?
Post by: nooneknows on July 30, 2004, 05:35:59 PM
Hi,
I've just bought a 2nd hand Mxr distorsion+ (40â,¬, mint condition, it was abandoned lonely in the music instruments shop...) .
Any opinion about this pedal?
It doesn't sound so bad (at least with a slightly distorted amp) but however I'd like to know if there are any must-have mod for this box, I took a look in the forum but I've found diode change mod only.
...I think it lacks a bit of bass but I have to test it better....
Thank you,
Marcello

Mess with the diodes, possibly replace the opamp...
Trying different diode configurations make the distortion more or less..check out simple mods and tips page
Making the input cap larger lets more bass in...

The Ross distortion is a MXR D+ with a slightly different diode clipping section. I don't know exactly how it is, though. If you get a schem for it you might get some ideas. There's also a 'brown sound' pedal out there that is a modded D+, was it the bennett labs one?
Putting a small cap across the diodes smooths out the clipping.
Check out the "mods" section on Aron's FAQ section!!!

There's a serious mod by Alfonso Hermida in Schematics 2. Seek & ye shall find.
