Title: New Vox Clyde McCoy Wah vs Vox Wah
Post by: Arn C. on August 18, 2004, 11:07:00 AM
A friend of mine bought the new vox clyde mcCoy and is not happy with the sounds.   He says that it is not like his old vox wah.   Bass side is really bassy and treble side is real thin.  He says it feels like there is a hole in the middle.   I will assume no mids at all.   Is there a way to make this sound more like the original?

Thanks!

Hi Arn,

There is an interesting article on Fuzz Central.

Check this (http://fuzzcentral.tripod.com/mckoy.html) link.

Looks like a true-bypassed GCB-95 with better components.

Yeah that does look an awful lot like the GCB-95.  I'll fish out one of my old GCB-95 circuit boards later today and compare them.  They're also using the repro. Fasel inductor...too bad the real Clyde Wah came with Halos ;)

Thanks Joep, I will check it out!
And the pic Al !

Do you think that the fasel inductor is the big difference in the sound?

If so, I could pop one in that I have in one of my wahs and let him try it out and then get him to get another inductor, if one could be found.

I will experiment!

Peace!

I see that it has the Red Fasel. That's cleaner sounding than the yellow Fasel. In their ads, they compare the yellow Fasel to Clapton/Hendrix/Page, and the red Fasel to Frampton. Frampton? When I think of clean wah, I think of the funk players. I like the sound of the Yellow fasel. Haven't tried the red yet.

Arn: Best inductor prices I've seen are Antique Electronics.

I have trouble making the exact page work. Go the this page and type "wah" in the search box. They have Fulltone pots cheap too.
