It looks like you've got the copper padded holes on the top, component side. FWIW, I'd flip the board over and use the pads on the bottom to help the solder stick. To each their own. Good job.
Nice perf layout Marty. The wiring isn't that bad (decent actually), the pos battery lead could stand to be shortened a bit. If it doesn't pickup noise, or oscillate, the wiring is fine.
You know the thing: you re-model a room in your house. In one corner, the ceiling molding miter is off a couple of degree's. No one notices, and says what a beautiful job you've done. But you know the little mistake is there, and it drives you nuts everytime you see it. If our wiring isn't perfect, it annoys us everytime we change batteries.
Remember, when you see perfect wiring jobs, it's due to repetition of the same layout.
If you use the same box size, and the same board, switch, jack, dc jack, and LED placement, you can standardize your wiring length quickly. Then the only new wiring length you need to work out is for the number of pots. Just remember to write down the standard component hook up's and their length for future builds.
I used to mount everything in the box unwired, and use solid core wire to work out the length. With solid core, you can strip the leads and bend them over on the solder lugs of the components, and they'll stay put. When you have the wiring length to your satisfaction, write down the lengths for future reference.
BTW, how did you like the Tube Reamer? It's got a great sound IMHO.

Its just plain perf board, have'nt tried copper clad board yet, but will soon.
Tube reamer has a problem, its at full gain all the time ! even on zero gain-pot ?
Just built a second board and its exactly the same !! am i missing something ??

Do you have lugs 1 & 2 tied together, going to the 1k resistor? Lug 3 goes to the 470k resistor.

Yes, i've followed the perf build/schem and can't for the life of me, work out whats wrong...... 2 builds !!
Second build i used a pair of germanium diodes, and at first got hardly any break up, so i DID get a clean signal ! as soon as i swopped them out for 1N4148's i got the repeated "full drive" again !
Thoughts ?? are the pot values correct ? could my 1m ohm resistor be wrong/much smaller ?? its brown black green gold

The Gain pot is 5k lin., and the Volume is 100k log. The color band you gave is correct for a 1M, but that's not directly tied to the gain pot, 1k (brown, black, red, gold) & 470k (yellow, violet, yellow, gold) are. Double check your diode and IC orientation. Should be good gain even with Ge diodes. It's starting to sound like a soldering or wiring problem. Double check all resistor and cap values.

On your volume pot, lug 3 is marked, lug 2 is your "out", and lug 1 is tied to the ground. It looks like you don't have a LED or DC jack, so I'm guessing you used a DPDT switch. Either of these wiring schem's will work fine.

Yeah, its a DPDT switch, as per the info you posted.
I've checked all the values and wiring, it all looks good, its a very simple circuit ! wierd the BSIAB is much more complex and works fine !
I'm using panasonic NE5534A op amps, it is a single op amp in the schem isnt it ?

It's a single op amp. The NE5534 shouldn't be a problem. Don't know if Panasonic's "A" designation is different from the standard 5534. You can always try a TLO71 or 741.
I dug up my perf test, and fired it up. Same thing. Look at the schematic. The gain goes from 471-476, if my late nite math is correct. So basically all you'll get is the bass rolloff from 122-725 hz when you crank up the gain pot. Kind of a one trick pony, TS meets the Distortion +.
Off the top of my head I'm thinking go up to 500k on the gain pot, up the 1k to 1.5k, and drop the 470k to 50k. The .22uf cap will have to be adjusted. I'll go over it again tomorrow.
Fret Wire, you are "the man" !! that is all i get, a fully distorted ( and quite nice IMHO ) sound, with bass rolled off as you increase the gain pot, 5k pot does seem kind of small though eh?
I'll wait 'til you've had a think ( its UK time here so catch you later ) i wonder if anyone else has built it and had a problem? ROG ?
