Title: Shaka Tube's Insides - L@@K here... (progress report)

Aron-

I'm thinking about trying to move my Shaka Tube's guts into a Hammond 1590BB enclosure. I remember that you had a picture of the inside of yours in that type of enclosure. I think that was a couple of years ago at the really old forum. Do you know where I can find that picture so I can get an idea of how the layout should be?

I remember I was happy because I found those cheap clamps to use to hold the tube inside the box. It worked.

Thanks, that's the one I was thinking of.  8)

My tube socket had a hole in the middle of it I used for mounting it to perf...I just used a sleeve [like a ball point pen...cut real straight] to keep the lugs up where I could get 'em, and a nut and bolt....bolt through tube socket and 'jack up sleeve' nut and washer....simple, easy and uses common stuff...that clamp does look good...solid...
Just a possible alternative way to do it,...

Did anyone design a pcb for this?

I packed my Shakatube inside of a 1590BB. With the layouts posted it should be possible.
Hey Paul I send you a picture of mine...

tomboy-

That would be great! I am having some trouble figuring out how to get all this stuff in that size enclosure with the hardware layout that I want. It's the height that is giving me the problems. My current enclosure is slightly larger than a Hammond 1590BB. I may design a PCB layout to acheieve what I want. Then again, the one I have works fine already...

EDIT:
These graphics should give you an idea of what I want. I don't know that it can be laid out this way in a Hammond 1590BB...

I didn't find the inside picture but I sent you another one where you can see how I managed the tube and the pots.
inside pcture follows soon...

OK, I think I have it figured out. I have done a couple of new PCBs designed around a Hammond 1590BB enclosure, and figured out a layout that should work with how how I want the hardware and graphics to be set up on the box.

Check it out:

I figure that I'll do some kind of sheet metal bracket to hold the tube socket using the bypass switch to hold it in place.

why don't u turn the tube upside down? u'll get shorter wires!

Well, then I couldn't get the tube out...
The length of wires in my current build are actually longer than what I would have in this one. It hasn't been a problem for me.

Glad you like it.  8)
I'm going to get started on it tonight...

I will get the PDFs so that they print the correct size in the next few days. I need to verify that everything works before I go sharing them with the world at large. If anyone sees any mistakes, please let me know ASAP! Thanks.

Well, I have the two PCBs etched now and half-populated tonight. I'll probably be finished with it by Saturday afternoon. Hopefully, everything goes smooth...

Got the PCBs populated now, and I made a bracket out of some sheet aluminum to hold the tube socket. Next, I'm going to drill the enclosure. So far, everything is working out as planned. I'll post a couple of pictures of my progress soon - probably this evening.

OK, here's a few pics. So far, everything is going as planned. I'll be soldering the interconnective wiring tomorrow night.

This is the bracket I made for holding the tube socket. I drilled the holes after I bent it up. Kind of a pain doing it that way, but it worked out OK. I used a paper mock up to figure out what shape it should be and stuff.

Here is a view showing how the bracket will be held in place.

Here is a test run to see how everything fits inside. To the left is my prototype AuotCAD drawing. The only thing I don't have worked yet out is where to put the AC jack, but I think I have a good spot for it...

Nice lookin build Paul, you gonna use shielded cable for your signal path run's ?

Yep, I'll use shielded wire. I used shielded wire on my other Shaka Tube build, which I called the "Bulldog", and this layout basically follows the layout of the Bulldog, except for the tube is in a different location. So, based on the success of the Bulldog, I anticipate this one ought to work OK as well. I just wanted to get this circuit in a more compact enclosure, and I can't seem to walk away from a technical challenge like this...
