Title: Need a Phaser Recommendation
Post by: JT on August 30, 2003, 11:44:50 PM
I have yet to build one of these. Can anybody recommend one? I am looking at either JD's or Tonepad's Small stone or Tonepad's Phase 90. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.:)
Thanks!

The Small Stone, may be simpler because you do not need to match the fets, which is really necessary.

I build the Phase 90 and I like it, I just made the PCB for the Ross Phaser, also from Tonepad.

Good luck,

Joep

SmallStone from JD's layout.

I built the phase100. I should have tried a simpler one first.
It is a shelf resident and will be for some time.
I would tried a small stone or phase45... anything easier than the 100.
Just my opinion and you may not have any of the trouble I have.
Best of luck with whichever you go with!

I have a original Ross Phaser and EH  small stone. Both of these are slightly different sounding phasers, but both really great in their own right, the ross thicker and warmer in tone.
Either of these builds will give you one of the best sounding phasers around.

Bear in mind that if you are building a FET-based phaser like the phase 45 or 90, you will have to deal with matching the FETs. A few people have reported that the phase 45 on our site works without FET matching (I used random 2n5485 FETs to confirm this).
