If you don't mind the (relatively) high voltages, I vote for the McTube (use a 12AU7 it sounds sweet ).

If you'd rather stick to low voltages, then build the shaka tube (I also like a 12AU7 in that one)

They're both great tube pedals  8)

I'ld go for a complete tube amp!
No I'm realy serious: Check out the FireFly at Doug Hammond's site.

No offence, but I like to see tubes in amps and diodes and trannies in stompboxes. But that's only me.

I built the McTube and the Shaka Tube. Both are great sounding circuits.

what kind of sound do you want.. why not take it tot the next level

build a jcm 800 in a box. complete with tone stack.

plexi in a box.

take any amp schematic and build a preamp in a box.

some of them will take careful layout and have a high parts count but there are things you can do to make them simpler and more reliable.

do you need somehting that will do all the gain of a boogie but back off and have a nice sounding grind to it that cleans up.

try an bogner xtacy.

i say if you are going to take the time to build a tube pedal then go all the wya with it and build the sound of the amp that you want.

but thats just my .02
