Title: matchbox build help

i've breadboarded it
used a 2n7000 at the input stage
well when i had the led as in the schem the mosfet drain was at 7.9V and almost no sound at all or something like a misbiased fet.when i reversed the led then drain voltage was 4.5 and i was getting sound...
can some explain it???
have i done somethin wrong?

2N7000 pinout is reversed from BS170.

Looking at face:

BS170 = DGS
2N7000 = SGD

edit:
well this is a funny one...
i had the led pins pre cut so i took the - pin for the + and vice versa... :lol:
