Title: LPB-1 low output
Post by: CoolJohnny on October 19, 2005, 01:51:37 PM
love the transparency of this circuit but never figured out how to get more gain out of it. bare sound is just a hair above unity (where i like my pedals to start) but can't seem to get any more grit. i've gone through so many boosters in the last couple of years...always on the quest for the best, so i thought i'd revisit this one...ideas? experiences?

Which tranny did you use?

You've done enough booster it sounds like to compare this one to.
  Is it working?

Sounds either mis-biased or the tranny is in backwords.  I've breadboarded the LPB-1 a number of times and every time it has a very serious boost.

If you used a 2N5088 transistor as I did, try a 2N5089. I did this because of the very same reason. The change in output is very noticeable.

I used a BC549 i believe, and to good result.

However, if your breadboarded ones are different than your soldered ones, then something is wrong.  Overcooking the transistor, perhaps?
