Title: ROG Phozer - Torchy Layout Question
Post by: alteredsounds on December 29, 2005, 06:51:56 AM
Hi,

Put together ROG's Phozer using Torchy's layout yesterday.  LED flashes away happily and changes with the speed pot, I can hear the depth pot working on the hum as I sweep the pot so they are fine but as soon as I connect the ground wire I get silence, with the ground wire unconnected I get a slightly buzzy clean sound.  All parts are correct and orientated correctly and no shorts across the tracks.

Only subs were Q2 2n5088 for the 2n5089 and Q3 MPSA14 for the MPSA13.

One thing that is confusing me is C4, its shown as a 100nf electro cap?  Can anyone verify this layout?

Thanks :)
Nick,

Looking at the schem... should be 22uf.

Yup, it should be 22uf, it's an electro on the layout
The only 100n is the output cap C3

Thanks for that.  I tried to compare it to the schem but got a bit lost as to knowing what it should be.  I'm guessing that by the fact I put a 100nf in there it could be causing me problems as it is on the earth rail and thats where it seems to be going wrong.

Thanks,
Nick,

from what I can see from spec sheets, the MPSA14 is the same pinout as the j201's.  Quite enjoying just making the led speed-up and slow down at the moment, quite relaxing lol

Done all the usual error checking, pin-outs, probing etc and cant get this one to anything.  Can hear some hiss and a soft pulsing clock type sound.  LED is flashing away in time too but no output.  Can anyone verify this layout or have another build and so would know the tranny values if I post them?

Thanks,

Happy New Year,
Nick,

Sorry to bump this but I'm stumped on this.  As far as I can tell my build is right, as mentioned, all the usual cheking etc done.  I'm wondering if this layout is accurate?  There was the error with C4 as above, I've rectified that but am not 100% confident enough to verify it against the original schem.

Any help would be much appreciated as if its wrong I'll move to a new build.

Happy New Year!
Nick,

the MPSA14 is the same pinout as the j201's.

J201.....     typically  DSG
mpsa 14...      "         EBC

Worth double checking.

Thanks for the replies.  I realised I had the mpsa14 wrong just after I typed that.  Unfortunately that isnt the problem.  Is there much difference betwwen the mpsa 13 and 14? I'm guessing not enough to cause many probs?

Thanks Again,
Nick,
