Title: determining the flow direction of an LED?
Post by: christobean on April 29, 2006, 06:38:55 PM
hi, i have been searching around on here, but i cant find anything like i need.. i have leds, how do i figure out which direction the clipping will be in.  like on a pcb layout diagram it will show the triangle pointing a certain way or the diode with the stripe at one end.  how do i know which end is which on an LED?
thanks

With LED's the long wire is the "anode +" the triangle end which is pointing to the short wire is the "cathode -" the stripe end.
Also the flattened section on a LED usually refers to the cathode end.

so positive = long wire
negative = short wire & flattened section
