Ok, this is a pretty basic question, but I've searched and can't find it.
How does a diode in a schematic (i.e. an arrow pointing to a bar) relate to the actual diode with the bar on one end?
(sheepish)
Wow, this is pretty weird. I just answered this exact question in a different thread not but 2 seconds ago. So here goes. The diode in a schematic is an arrow that points into a bar. On a real diode there is a mark that indicates the bar on one side of the diode.

So the silver band on this represents the bar on a schematic diode. In this one the diode arrow points to the upper right.

I know the question's been answered I just thought I'd add that the DIY FAQ (http://www.diystompboxes.com/cnews/FAQ.html) is great for that type of info.
Awesome! Thanks, now back to the soldering iron and my AMZ MOSFET boost :)
Watch out with that circuit. If you used the tonepad layout, the BS170 is the wrong way round. Maybe use a socket to make life easier.

LOL, that was my question you probably answered cause you used the same pic as I did. :D
