Title: Bazz Fuzz - got sound but no fuzz
Post by: Phiredog on September 12, 2003, 08:37:23 AM
I finished this up last night and plugged in. If I turn my amp all the way up, I get sound but it sounds just like normal. Any ideas where I'm losing the distortion? Also, when I rotate the volume pot to max, the sound cuts out. I assume it's wired wrong but I'm not sure.

Thanks for any help.
Bill

First, check the transistor orientation.  What type is the transistor?

Also, double-check the diode orientation.

The transistor is 2N3904. I'll check the orientation when I get home tonight.

Thanks, Bill

You posted earlier about making a PNP Bazz Fuss.  Did you do that, using the 2N3904?  If so, that's the problem.  The 2N3904 is NPN.

I did post earlier because I have no transistors left except PNP after building the NPN version I'm currently working with. Of course, I could still have some things in backwards   I wanted to build a PNP version for a friend if I could get the NPN version to work and it sounded good.

I checked the transistor and sure enough it was reversed! I turned it around this morning and wham! It works great. Thanks for the help.

Great!  I'm glad it's working.
