Title: Fat Boostered - Paul C.- how to tweak it to less gritty..
Post by: Hendrik1 on September 16, 2006, 05:32:50 AM
On my handwired Fender Reverb I like to use the Fat Boosted for Country,
but for the Blues I think it is a bit too much 'gritty' in combination with the FR amp.

What can I possible trying to change to get it more smoother.

Thanks in advance.

Use 2 batteries in series for 18v.   That will give you more clean headroom.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused as well.

By grit do you mean it needs more clean headroom, or do you mean that it's too raw sounding and you want the distortion to be smoother?

The circuit being essentially a Mini-Booster with an input buffer, you can use any mods that are suggested for the Mini-Booster.

Like these:

What I would (will...?) do is select the lower Fet with a smaller gain.

You could also use a 1K instead of the 100 ohms for R5, as in the original schematic of the Mini-Booster.
