Title: Big muff build report and demos
Post by: dschwartz on April 25, 2007, 11:30:28 AM
Hi all!
last night i finished a big muff for a guy who wanted just the circuit..

I used all 3904´s and added a tone mod (like AMZ body control) ..

It sounds really good as a big muff (although i don´t like 'em), it was not too noisy even w/out a metal case.
The tone is very effective and the body controls the mid response so geives more versatility..
Is very responsive to the volume control..It´s a great build..too bad i dont like fuzzes...

you can check it out here:

greetings from Chile!!!!

Nice job.  Nice and small.  Sounds great.  The Big Muff isn't for everyone but it has its place.  When David Gilmour uses his it inspires me to get mine out and jam on it.  I just built the opamp version of the BM.  It sounds the closest to a triangle version but of course it has it's own distinct sound.  I'm sure whoever you built it for will like it.  Why didn't you need to have an enclosure for this?  Did the person you built it for already have one?

My new stock one sounds so different from this... Unbelievable. Nice though!

I played some RHCP with it and sounds really close, so i assume its a good muff!!

I was based on the triangle version parts from tonepad, and used the board from "pisotones.com" (great spanish page) that included the millenium BP, and a place for the switch (a truly great idea..read this Fco peña, ROG and GGG, please!)..

The guy i builded this for is on a budget, so i offered him just the circuit (even that way i think my price was fairly low), and he is going to make the enclosure..(he thought it was easier..HA!!!)...i´m going to help him though, of course...

I wanted to call it "the muff diver"....but  i´m not making the enclosure..

i think this sounds f'ing fantastic... nice nice job!  i'm going to be putting mine together in the next couple of days.. i'll have to give the 3904's a shot against the 5088's!

 jlullo,
3904's sound great in the Big Muff I tried them first.  I'm using 5088's now only because I had them on hand at the time.  Either one will work great.  Good luck.

i've had the pnp printed and waiting for this one for a while, haven't gotten around to transferring. the old green version sounded most intriguing to me...

I'm going to box it and and sandwich (2) LPB2's around it, one for gain pre-boost and one for volume post-boost.

The triangle muff is still my favorite out of all the variations.
I built this one over the weekend but, wasn't as impressed as I had thought I would have been.  :icon_neutral:

I didn't pay attention to the original date on this thread. As I was scrolling down I saw a reply by Markm and nearly shat myself.
