Title: Another Dr Boogie question
Post by: Crawf on May 02, 2007, 03:34:41 PM
Hi, After a lot of reading about this pedal i've etched a layout from Gaussmarkov's site but i keep reading about the amount of squealing the pedal can produce, in saying that i have read a number of solutions for this, what i was wondering was, do they all squeal or is it just your luck and is it still worth building, thanks Crawf.
(ps can the J201's be substituted for something else if i dont have any?)

I built both the Gauss and Buck layouts and both work fine and sound exactly the same.
I used shielded I/O cables on Buck's.
On Gaussmarkov's layout I did not.
No squealing. Creates music for the three horsemen to ride in with.

Is it worth building....? YES of course.

I whole heartily recommend Gauss's layout as it adds a couple of design features. It's a good layout. Use it.
Plain-old 24gauge wire works fine. You can see how "neat" I was (not that neat) and it's free of oscillation with controls at max.
With either layout you will want to scale the tone stack values in order to use a 100k output pot. That would be a good improvement.
Doesn't effect the sound but helps the Dr. Boogey get along with other pedals better than the 1meg pot.
All The Details are in Gaussmarkov's Boogey thread. (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=55198.0)

... and the scaled tone stack version is what's on gaussmarkov.net. :icon_biggrin:
