Title: noise problem
Post by: Clubman35 on September 09, 2007, 10:09:35 AM
I just built a silicon fuzz face with MPS2222A transistors and this thing is really noisy with the fuzz is on max. I noticed that when I turn off the tone controls on my guitar (Fender Strat) the noise goes away. Is this some sort of ground problem? Weird....

Thanks-
Jim

could be your guitar, maybe your pickups are microphonic and picking up a buzz or bad switch/solder connection?  Could be a ground problem in your guitar.

Sounds like normal (60 cycle?) single coil hum that's amplified by the high gain of the fuzz. Turning down the tone controls would, I imagine, sort of mask the frequency where the noise is present.
Turn the fuzz down from the max setting and see what happens.
