Title: Modding a BIG MUFF....squaring it up?????
Post by: AC30Dirty on November 27, 2007, 12:00:59 PM
Hey guys, I have a triangle big muff that i built a while back that I was wondering if I could mod to achieve a tone that is close to the sound the bassist from MUSE is getting on the intro to Time Is Running Out? It sounds very synth-like but I know therer is a big muff tine in there. Im gonna raise the value of the caps to allow more bass to come through but I was wondering if there was a way to mod the clipping section to square wave the signal to get CLOSE to that synth like tone he's getting? Thanks

right now on the breadboard I have a circuit that emulates the mega square sound. It is a bazz fuss circuit with a large cap to ground at the input (off of the clipping diode). the idea is that only bass frequencies will get in and be clipped.  I meant to finalize the circuit and document it properly with sound clips before mentioning how I got the sound - but since you ask, there is something you might want to try.
