My latest project is building the JCM-800 Emulation as posted here:

When I ordered the required parts, I ordered only 2 1M Log pots rather than 3 so I am one short. I do have a spare 100k Log pot and was wondering if anyone knew what the impact would be if I used that instead?
I will try it out and see but with my tin ear I may not necessarily notice and was wondering what to expect?
I do have a 1M Linear pot but I do know it would change the response in using it for volume as the volume would not change until the last 1/4 turn of the knob.
The workarounds I can do is the following:
1. Replace one of the Volume pots with a 100k log
2. Replace the Bass pot with the 1M lin.
3. Replace one of the Volume pots with the 1M lin.
4. Make the 1M lin into a smaller taper using parallel resistors.
Neither Radio Shack (aka The Source) doesn't carry a 1M log and Active-Tech would order it in but would charge $20 for shipping. On a side note, anyone in Ottawa have a better alternative location for parts than these two?
At that price I would rather wait until the next urge to build kicks in and order it then. I am looking for a workaround until then.
What would you suggest?
I have errands to do today after work and for the remainder of the evening that require running around a lot, but I can spot you a 1M log pot if you can't score one over the next few days. I'm surprised you couldn't find one at:
- Reset Electronics over near the Ottawa Citizen offices on Baxter Road
- A.D.D. Electronics across the street from the Parkdale Market on Armstrong
- Gervais Electronics over on Industrial Road.
Drop me a PM if you're still out of luck....and pots.
As an Ontarian, your best value/deal on pots will involve a side trip to Honson Electronics on College Street near Spadina next time you are in Toronto. They have a wide assortment of lin, log, and duals in the 16mm size for 70 cents a pot ($1.40 for duals). Worth it to feed the greedy Toronto parking meters just for that.
I will have to check out Reset and ADD, I never heard of them. Gervais I know of but I don't like their hours since they close at noon on Saturdays which is when I do most of my scurrying around for electronics. Plus they are on the other side of Ottawa so getting there after work is a pain since I bus it downtown.
I called Reset and I am going to run (literally) over after work. Do you know if A.D.D has a website?
Out of curiousity, what should happen if I was to change a 1M volume pot to a lower resistance?
Thanks for the help
