Title: Zvex SHO booster, "plop" switching.
Post by: fuzzo on February 04, 2009, 03:46:59 PM
Hi,

I did a Sho booster but with the 3PDT i can hear a big "ploc" everytime I press the bypass switch (it's like if someone kicks my speaker ;D) . I did a lot of tests but nothing change (with or without switching, with the in effect to the ground, with in and out pull-down resistors) so what I can do ?

I have heard of 3PDTs going bad and becoming micro phonic. Try another switch?

I did it with a simple DPDT, but nothing change :-\

It's the first time I've this problem, I use the same wiring for all my pedals and it's the only one with this "plop".

I have completed a few SHO s and SuperDupers without that issue. What layout are u using. I know there are a few versions round here. It doesnt sound like a bad 3pdt.

I giggled out loud at that.

My personnal layout, but the circuit works great.

Anyway , I did AMZ booster and there's any plops when I press the switch (the circuit doesn't have  Pulldown resistors too) , I don't undersand ???

I've heard this was a problem with production SHO from ZVex from some people who owned them.

check for backwards caps too

I like to use a 100k as the output pulldown instead of 1m.

I know according to the threads and Zvex he said to omit the 2 1n1914s on one of the layouts around here but add a 9v or more zener. Also a few layouts show 2 1m resistors as well but those should be 10m. I also verified this info from actual pics of both an Sho and 2 in 1. I think he used to make them w those parts but later updated to the parts I mentioned.

Yes It had one at output, but the plop stays. Anyway the SHO doesn't exist anymore, I did an AMZ booster on the same veroboard. And without pulldown R any "plop switiching". Strange....
