Title: 12v through audio jacks?
Post by: 347sixtyseven on February 12, 2009, 07:24:40 PM
Hi guys,

Just wondering if it is ok to run 12v dc through audio jacks?

I am building a power supply with 5 outputs of 12 v at 500 mA and i am very limited space-wise for the sockets.

I was thinking of using the small mono audio jacks instead of the normal dc in jacks.

Cheers

Gary

The only bad thing is that as the tip is +ve it will short to the socket if you plug it in when switched on - sparks will fly.

^use a insulated jack then. Simple and cheap.

Would shorting be an issue if i used rca plugs instead?
