Title: 1N4002 diode in Rat?

Is it important to use a 1N4002 diode in a Rat Distortion or can I just use a 1N4001?

That would be the polarity protection diode right?
1N4001 is fine, 4002 can handle a bit more reverse voltage. No real difference in a stompbox.
There's a good article on GEO on polarity protection, the advanced way, if you're interested.
