Title: Uglyface Question?
Post by: Wales on January 08, 2010, 06:31:55 PM
Just got my uglface from this thread http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=66861.0 working to the best of my knowledge (have only heard samples not one in person). Mine seems to be like the samples, however I don't get the repeating sonic sounds when the threshold is turned all the way up. I think this is because of my homemade Vactrol, I have smallbear one I can test but this isn't my real concern.

My question is should the ugly face sustain a note? mine seems to break up and decay when holding notes. In the samples I have heard I can't tell if this happens cause the guitar playing is continuous.

I'm just about to take voltages and audio probe it so i will post the findings. I'm not sure what part of the circut is responsible for the sustain of the note so I'll check it all.
Any comments are appreciated.

Never mind seems like it was the home made vactrol. I put in a VTL5C3/2 and the sustain problem seems gone. Still no reapting sonic sounds though. but still very cool. Think I'm gonna button it all up.

It's interesting that you solved this using a store bought vactrol.  I was going to say it was the nature of the beast.  If you solved the note decay issue then I need to take another look a mine.  I'm not sure why you're not getting the star wars laser sounds but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.  It's a simple enough circuit.
