I'm wondering if someone could provide a pointer to solderpins including the female part with a diameter of < 1mm. Thanks!

Maarten,
In most cases the plated through hole is 1mm to accomodate for a 1mm round "shaft" form type of solderpin. The area below the rim is to be inserted into that hole while the top part is the interface to a female part (your wire connector). The 1mm assumes it's a press-fit mount. When applied to a plated-through-hole specified for 1mm this is too small hence press-fit will damage the hole .
Kind Regards (groetjes)
Piet
