Well, I just picked up my small stone (sovtek, version 3 --> http://www.pedalarea.com/small_stone.htm ) and I discovered it needs a + tip DC supply. I have a pedalboard and a voodoo lab pedal + so I have no use for batteries, but the power brick doesn't come with a + tip connector and I don't want to wait 5 weeks to order one and shell out more cash. Now, my question.. How hard would it be to re-wire the smallstone for - tip, or alternatively, can I just take the - tip connector that came with my pedal power + and cut it, and swap the two wires inside?
I think, judging by my experience with multi adapters, that there's nothing wrong with just swapping the two wires in the dc connector to turn it into + tip, but I'd like to run it by you kind folks.
Cut and splice will do the trick.
Awesome, thanks :)
And a double check to make sure you only went 1/2 way around with the reversal of polarity.
Haha, yeah I will. It's really just a matter of cutting it and re-splicing it with the opposite wires though eh?
If all you're doing is converting center pin + to center pin - on the power plug then yeah.
*Sigh*.
Turns out Voodoo Lab figured that if I was using a 3.5mm, it'd probably need to be + tip. And they were right. Unfortunately I only found out after I cut & spliced it and realized it wasn't working, haha. Had I tried it, it would have worked the way it was, but the cord was black like all their - tip ones so I assumed it'd be the same since they use white cords for + tip Boss-style connectors. Ah well, I'll know what I'm doing now if I ever need to do it again. On the other hand, I have a kickass phaser that will sound amazing for worship music in church. But the flip side of that is that I probably only have room for like 1 more pedal on my board. :o I don't know how I'll ever choose.. I might have to rehouse a few into one unit to cut down on space.
Thanks for the help guys :P
Sucks that it didn't work out for you, but I've got a solution for your other problem at least......you need a bigger pedal board! ;D :icon_twisted:
Hahaha, good idea
