Attenuate at the input, add gain after the clipping stage.

Are you looking for more outout level?
Or just a cleaner Dist/OD?

Output level.  I like to hit my amps hard, then dial in a little drive as it need it.

Seems like you want to Either add a gain stage after the clipping stage or just modify the circuit
for more volume if possible. Depends on the circuit. If you can post/link a schematic we can tell you
what's possible.

Add a clean booster in your signal chain - after the OD pedal.
