Title: Honey Bee clone graphics, which one do you like best?
Post by: ericohman on February 18, 2011, 07:36:30 PM
Hi!

I've done a honey bee clone using the schematics found over at freestompboxes forum (stripboard by Mike Livesley v1.7)
I've painted a huge box with hammerite silver grey using a roller. Came out pretty nice. I'm going for a vintage/relic look so I boiled an egg, removed the shell then put a brand new dpdt footswitch into the egg yellow. That's a trick I learned from some jewelry website and works really good with jacks, nuts etc :) Just takes one hour for a light result. I had the switch in for 6 hours and it was maybe a bit too much.

Anyway. I've done some different designs and I can't decide which design I should go with. If you want to give opinion, just type the number shown above each photo... Also, at the bottom of the page I have 3 different text layouts for the knob text in case you'd like to help with that decision as well  ;D

All images in B&W just to add to the vintage feel when looking at the graphic design.
Let me know what you think:

might be mistaken but did you change your mind over the knob text? :D

need some sleep now, it's 2:30 in sweden...
feels great that 2 people said #6, feels better not to call it "honey bee"...

yes, "HoneyDrive". most certainly the most aesthetically pleasing font.

#6 and A. Strangely I was affected by an optical illusion as I checked through, I thought that on one of the designs the "Honey" was slightly cut out in the bottom, so that the top line of the letters was unaffected (i.e. a straight line) but the letters o,n,e,y got progressively smaller. As if the letters were being squashed between a straight line and a circle, if that makes any sense.
I was going to suggest that you should continue the effect through "Drive" but I went back and discovered that I had just imagined it  :icon_eek:
Might be interesting to attach the letters to a slightly curved path.

I tried a few path text but never got to a point where it looked good.. though just applying text path to parts of the name might look good.

this was one of the inspiration photos I looked at:

OT...
Cross your eyes on that picture and it's hyper 3-dimensional.
The knobs look like 3 inches tall!  :icon_eek:

Back on topic...
6B or 2A, can't decide.
