Title: my first stomp box
Post by: revolver944 on March 06, 2011, 11:49:31 AM
This is my first stomp box. I'm new to all this.
I made it using the "persuader" tube overdrive kit. I plan on adding a Fuzz effect to it soon.
I used a Valve cover from a small block chevy. I didnt much care for the traditional pedal enclosure.
Eventually I'd like to build a Tube amplifier... Id like to build a 100w one... anyone know of a reasonably priced kit?

Hafta say chrome is very shiny color ! Nice shape, a little deep but workable !
Sure gets the cool look checkmark !

The kits all are reasonably priced, competitively to some extent at least.
It boils down to what do you want in it, {extept maybe the fancy super tricked out chassis with the uburkill irons and all the premium features...gets a little harder to barter on these...seems like a lot but it's hard to get it perfectly that nice, all premium in the box, no burrs or scratches.
Trick to amp shoppin' IME is get the expensive parts and figure them out, a trashed up beat down amp in need of total overhaul, something with HQ iron and chassis is where the real good deals start.
There are a blinding number of options with tube amp kits, sorting out which one is sort of a marathon of reads, comparisons, in the end they're all experiments and compromises, pick your platform and work it !

My guess is that it's not built for gigging. I'd hate to gig with a pedalboard full of such pedals.

Other than that  :o amazing.

I'll post some gut shots later this week. I'm going to be adding a fuzz effect to it here shortly so I'll be in there anyway.

I'm at a complete loss for words. Speechless. I've torn down more than a few small blocks in my time, but I could have never imagined.

Prime example of just one of the little things that make this a wonderful world.

It's so nice, I wouldn't even think of copping the idea. Kinda like covering "Stairway to Heaven". You listen to it, you play it in private, but covering it? Just not cool.

You should be getting a call from the Smithstonian soon...

I'll second Derringer on the Weber kits. Lots of choice, and very reasonable prices insofar as kits are concerned. Haven't built one yet, but my research always brings me back to their site.

Cheers,
Dino

Killer idea for an enclosure Rev!

I built the same kit a while back and was pleasantly surprised by how great it sounds ~ so much that my Tubescreamer has been collecting dust ever since.

A few tweaks to this circuit would be nice.  I'm great with a soldering iron and following direction, but as far as where to put, say, a toggle with a diode clipper or capacitor value switch takes a lot of experimentation (trial and error) for me.  That's all part of the journey though!

Best of luck.

I second that...outstanding!

What's next, maybe slapping a Telecaster neck on a chromed muffler & building around it?
