Hi! Need some input on the process. I followed Slade's tutorial, except toner transfer was done by a glossy magazine page. I have some good results before, two etched stompboxes, and one reverse-etch, but they could be improved. Basically I need your opinions on my transfer, and the steps before I dunk it in FeCl. As you will see on the picture, there are parts where paper is still stuck to the 'white' areas, but in some large areas, the paper has left it altogether, leaving behind bare metal.
As before... I'm on the fence on whether I should leave these 'papered' areas or whether I should weed them out to leave bare metal (if so, would be a problem, because the finer details are impossible to see and pick out under the paper). I wasn't too sure if I weeded 'em out thoroughly on my previous etches, and I was always feeling half-committed as I do so, although for PCB's I always weed out the paper areas.
Should I leave it as is, and proceed with the etch? What if the acid doesn't eat through the paper fast enough, before it gets to the toner portions and start to eat there [too much] as well?

looks like a good design...nice!
when i have any paper residue i get it off with a wet sponge, you can rub it pretty hard, the toner is very robust and will take it..
you can also use a matchstick to scratch of the finer stuff...
i always get it off, ive never tried etching with that residue still on there, so i dont know if it will eat through it...better safe than sorry.. :icon_wink:

LED will be in the eye, yes. ;D I've think I've rubbed it pretty hard by the time I took the pic. Getting the labels and other finer details to pop out, now that would be the tricky part. I could barely see it, and I know the lines are very thin. So... definitely try to weed it out then?
It won't etch properly with the residual paper. Personal experience from trying to etch boards with residual paper.
