I have an old solid state Dukane mic mixer I am trying to turn into individual mic preamps and it calls for a 24v power source. There doesn't seem to be much going on other than some simple transistor circuits, but I'd rather not under-build a supply, while still trying to keep its size at a minimum.
Is there a safe way to figure it out or should I just build a 1a supply and hope for the best?

If it's all solid state stuff, my guess is that 1mA would be fine. Maybe you can trace the schematic of one preamp, that could be valuable info. Or hook up the mixer and physically measure the current draw. I'd say that's the fastest way to you answer, provided you already have a way to power it.
