Title: Ever been sold what you didn't ask for ?
Post by: DavenPaget on November 28, 2011, 07:00:55 AM
Some idiotic shop , a brick and mortar shop ,
sold me a 2N5461 when i asked for J201 ... A long time ago , but it still worked , it didn't sound massively different from my J201 in another board , the thing is , how in the world did it work when it's a P channel ?
Tell me what you have been sold wrongly .

Jfets can work backwards to some extent IIRC, never tried it though.
Them little three legged devices jump into the wrong bin/bag once in a while...

I once was into breeding beta fish (The ones with the nice long fins).
I asked the guy at the pet shop for a female. Got home and did all the right stuff to get my male ready to bread.
When I put the "female" in, she beeted the crap out of my male! (Ripped out all of is fines!)

Talked to the pet shop guy.......and he tell me "Ya I'm sorry....it wasn't a female it was a COMBAT BETTA!!!"

They look kinda like females (when you don't know better) but they are breaded for their aggressiveness for fighting (thing Orientals love). This is now illegal.

Noting to do with electronics....I know.....sue me!  ;D

QuoteI'm french....If I make any mistakes....feel free to point them out!

Really funny mistake... :icon_biggrin:

In English, "breading" fish refers to mixing up some batter (perhaps with flour or cornmeal) for the purpose of frying them in hot oil and eating them.

"Breeding" refers to letting the little fishies have sex for the purpose of making more little fish.

(I read the first line of your post, and had a visual image of the poor fancy little fish on a plate - bite-sized snacks.)

Thanks for that waltk!

I am disturbed to think what happened that night between a "fighting" beta and a female beta .

The fighting one was put into a different aquarium (they don't fight with other fishes.......just other Bettas).

After my fancy male got back from his beating......I introduced him the real female. It was funny at first 'cause he was scared of the female (memories of his last encounter with a "female" I guess?) But eventually nature took over.

My dad used to be a tropical fish fanatic.  We had 3.5'*3.5'*5' aquarium in the basement.  It was big time party in there.  Once he took a photo of himself in the aquarium with the snorkel and the fishes.  Wonder where that pic is...

There was a real ecosystem in there with the plants and everything.  The municipal aquarium came to take some water samples because they wanted to have a self sustaining lagoon like us.  :icon_mrgreen:

I'll ask my parents if they have it, or at least some pics of the big aquarium.

Tout près de Mtl.
Dad told me it's his cousin who have the photo.  Wonder if it's going to be hard to talk to him.  There has been some 'chicane' in the family these last years.  It's maybe worth to try.   :)

PM me if I find some fish stories it's been one big passion in the days, don't wan't to go too OT.

You mean you no longer have the aquarium ?

Are you crazy, such a bathtub is a hell of a karma.  Don't want to tell the whole story.  There were the other normal aquariums for separating males, females, little fishes, that and the other species... Damn, there was a pool filtering system in the corner of the laundry room and a hole in the wall to show off the aquarium's glass in the library.   :icon_mrgreen:  I don't remember well but dad even had a water snake and a long 'prehistoric' fish that the young neighbor had caught in the river not far from home.  ...Alain's wife.   :icon_lol:  Looong story short: mama was tired of having the ecosystem in the basement.   :icon_neutral:  ;D  :icon_frown:

I've gone trough the photos here and not much.  There was also dad's friend who was into electronics and photography,  perhaps he has more interesting pictures.  Gonna write him a mail tomorow, he is perhaps building an other tube amp...

Mouser sometimes sends the wrong components out.  It's a pain, but they tend to be really nice about paying for return shipping and not making you jump through hoops.  Just keep all of your paperwork and check it against what you've ordered when the big box comes in the mail.

eBay is probably the shadiest place on the internet to spend cash and I've received whole lots of terrible AC128s (thanks, cherry pickers), almost-as-advertised trim pots and switches, and other assorted "mistakes."  most ebay sellers are aware the site is all about the buyers, so they'll compensate you if they really drop the ball.

When ordering from China or Hong Kong, I do often receive the right ICs with bent or broken leads because of the inadequate shipping methods (an envelope and foam won't save your precious CA3080s).  But the price is right and the extra headache to deal with is not worth the hassle.

Buying from Ebay is SCARY honestly  :icon_neutral:
It's like the backalley of purchases when the only lamp goes out .
I don't know if the CA3080E is so something special or what , the LM13700 is a good replacement , NTE996 is good but not really good (too expensive) .
