Title: The free market is alive and well....
Post by: digi2t on January 05, 2012, 07:05:11 PM
CAUTION, RANT AHEAD!

2200 bux.... for a Keio Synth Traveler. And he even has the gall to trample on Jacques "Singing Geisha" moniker.

It's simple. It's worth it if someone's willing to pay it. This stuff is being valued as collector's items. You're not paying $XXX per transistor or per ounce- it's all based on rarity and a lot of intangibles like sentiment and bragging rights. People may or may not agree with that. Evidently the seller is willing to take that risk.

Yes, the prices for this kind of stuff seems very silly to you and me. But rest assured, we're not the target market for it.

Do you think maybe sometimes the "winning bid" is the vendor themselves, and they do it just to inflate asking prices?  Just asking.

I suspect that happens sometimes. I know there are some builders with long wait times that have been accused of putting their stuff on Ebay and taking advantage of inflated "used/immediately-available" pricing. That's kind of related and I don't know how much of it is true. IMO it's a pretty cynical outlook that accuses someone of something like that but anything is possible I suppose.

It IS cynical, I suppose, and something I'm not prone to.  Of course, the alternative is accepting that there are people out there, with so much money to piss away, so gullible, and so impatient, as to pay those sorts of prices.  I'm not sure which of those interpretations casts the deeper pall on my beliefs about human nature!   :icon_rolleyes:

Human nature gets much worse than asking too much for an effects pedal on Ebay! Watch the news - :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek:
