Title: Marshall Shredmaster vero problem
Post by: mwynwood on June 15, 2013, 11:34:43 PM
Hi guys,
I have a couple of issues with my latest build - a Marshall Shredmaster from the verified vero layout at Sabro Tone: http://www.sabrotone.com/?p=3488 (http://www.sabrotone.com/?p=3488)

Here are my voltages - they seem right based on this post: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=100409.msg883433#msg883433 (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=100409.msg883433#msg883433)

All pots turned right up and nothing plugged into the input or output.

Power Supply: 9.67v

IC1
1: 4.88
2: 4.88
3: 2.40
4: 0
5: 4.64
6: 4.87
7: 4.87
8: 9.67

IC2
1: 4.87
2: 5.13
3: 4.64
4: 0
5: 4.64
6: 4.88
7: 4.88
8: 9.67

If anyone has fixed this problem before, or can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks :)

Most likely it is a wiring mistake of some sort, one that didn't affect the voltages. (Like a bad solder joint or missed connection.) Hope you get it working, the Shredmaster is a GREAT pedal.

Looks like we lost a lot from this thread  :icon_cry:

I found the cached version from Google here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:WubrFyXKN3kJ:www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php%3Ftopic%3D103187.msg919624%3Btopicseen+Marshall+Shredmaster+vero+problem&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:WubrFyXKN3kJ:www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php%3Ftopic%3D103187.msg919624%3Btopicseen+Marshall+Shredmaster+vero+problem&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au)

...and here's a screenshot of the thread, just incase (it's huge): http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/3923/1ynt.png (http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/3923/1ynt.png)

Hopefully I get some time to try some of these changes over the weekend :)

I'm eager to build a shredmaster on vero, and can't remember if the result of this thread was that the layout was good, or corrected, or pending verification...

Ah, shoot, sorry man.  It's already beer o'clock in the Jopn household, so I missed the answer being handed to me on a silver platter.

Carry on, nothing to see here...

I built the second layout I posted in that lost thread, and it works great. All controls respond as advertised, and there's less oscillation issues than my first layout (that was based on the different 1992 schematic); I only had oscillation with all controls dimed, and that's with everything hooked up using test leads bunched up in a mess of wires. I expect this to work without issues with proper lead dress in an enclosure.

Reposted layout:

If you still have issues, did you check for silly mistakes like using a 10k instead of a 100k etc.?

That's awesome news, I can't wait to fire up the soldering iron and get mine working!
Thanks  :icon_biggrin:

Can you post pics of your board and the vero you used?

At the moment, I'm modifying my layout... it's getting messy - it might be easier for me to start again on a fresh bit of vero... haha

I built this: http://www.sabrotone.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ShredMaster.gif (http://www.sabrotone.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ShredMaster.gif) which doesn't work.
But now, I'm bridging trace cuts and moving components around to make it more like this: http://www.sabrotone.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ShredMaster.gif (http://www.sabrotone.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/ShredMaster.gif)

Does anyone have a PCB of this a can buy? ;)

This project was sitting on my bench, not working, for months and months and yesterday I decided to re-visit it.
I abandoned the layout I was using because I just couldn't get it to work (and I'd made a bit of a mess of it while troubleshooting)
I decided to give this layout a go: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/marshall-shredmaster.html (http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/marshall-shredmaster.html)

After un-soldering all the components from my failed attempt and starting again on a fresh bit of vero, I'm happy to say I have a fully working Shredmaster!

This doesn't mean that the first layout doesn't work (it's been verified) it just means that *I* couldn't get it to work! haha
Anyway, it sounds great and I'm really happy with it.
