Hi all,
I use a Fuzz Factory to make lots of squealy noises, and I control the pitch by turning the volume knob on my guitar.
Heaps of fun and works like a charm - I'm sure you've all messed around with it.
Anyway...
Since I've been using a wireless system for live shows, I obviously can no longer do this, as the wireless puts a big fat buffer between me and my Fuzz Factory.
From what I've been reading the Muzique Guitar Pickup Simulation (http://www.muzique.com/lab/pickups.htm) is the answer, or this: http://store.diyrecordingequipment.com/passive-pickup-emulator/ (http://store.diyrecordingequipment.com/passive-pickup-emulator/)
It will make the Fuzz Factory see the correct impedance, but will it react to volume changes so I can still control the pitch by turning the volume knob on my guitar?
Also... has anyone got any pics of one they've built? I'm curious as to how small they can get...
Thanks a million guys and gals
No, the volume effect on your guitar will still have no effect. You could however build one into a wah enclosure, and have the foot control the fake volume pot in the pickup simulator
Thanks for the reply - and what a great idea!
I had the same problem with buffers screwing with my Parallel Universe II. I couldn't get the oscillation to work because of the impedance. The pickup sim did the trick, wonderfully well. As commathe says, FF into a wah shell would be the way to go.
Would love to build one of these but don't have the right transformers - - is there any way I can roll my own inductor for this?
Got a spare single coil pickup sitting around? Take the magnet off or don't. Put it in a box with one jack tip connected to each of the cool wires. If those wires have a shield you can connect it to the case and both jack sleeves. Done.
The recommended transformer is pretty reasonably priced. $2.19 US. Sure, it doesn't go down to 20hz, but it works very well on the circuit, which worked spectacularly as a pickup simulator before my octave up pedal, so I could get that rolled-off sound by turning on the pedal and not touching the tone control. Can you match those transformer specs with one of your distributors?
