Title: Teensy + Audio Board anyone?
Post by: potul on December 22, 2016, 03:38:34 AM
In my search for an experimientation platform for DSP I've always discarded Arduino based boards, but recently I found this:

http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_libs_Audio.html (http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_libs_Audio.html)

It is a Teensy audio board and library, that even includes some GUI to design the signal path.
It looks like the Teensys have more horsepower than Arduinos, and some DSP capabilities.

Has anyone tried it and have an opinion?

I was thinkin on build something similar to this:

To play a little with DSP effects... probably would need to add an external memory in order to get decent delay times.

Wow that SparkFun thing looks pretty cool.  Looks like they have adapted the node-red UI to creating code for the device.  Someone suggested I do that for SpinCAD but I was pretty far down the path it ultimately took and was not going to invest the effort to completely redo it.  They do say that the noise floor on this device is not great, but it may still be useful for prototyping something.  The SparkFun Proto PCB also looks quite handy regardless of what you are doing pedal wise!

Good stuff.
I'd already tagged the Teensy 3.x as maybe the ideal platform for a multi-head tape echo sim. Not done anything about it yet, but it looks like it should be easier with that graphic dsp software.
I'd probably only get the Teensy and audio boards, but do hope Sparkfun sell enough of the pedal parts to make some profit from it. It would be well deserved.

I'm quite interested in how you go... I happen to have Teensy3.1 and audio board. Haven't used the audio board much. I use the Teensy mainly as a USB midi controller for a hacked organ. The audio stuff seemed beyond me, but Paul seems to really support his product - really helpful on his own forum

this makes me feel old, but my friend's undergraduate son came by today to check out the "lab". he had his teensy board with him; he's making a simple multi FX unit for line audio. just learning about electronics but he's a sharp cookie, enough to describe the teensy as something i'd be interested in noodling with anyway. looks promising, i'm gonna order one and start tinkering in the next few months.
