OK, you can try the new themes.
Nebula is fully responsive - so it should work on desktop through mobile devices.
SMF mobile theme is also a responsive one - but is currently somewhat broken in that you cannot change the color right now and it looks.... green.
MiniDI is another responsive theme but for some reason is all upper case.
I recommend Nebula or DIYTheme2
I switched to the black one earlier today, so far so good.

I like the new softer feel to the forum index. The rounded corners the gradation.

Just seems more welcoming, more friendly.

See, I'm really lazy about typing, and I keep a "copy/paste" text document on my desktop with stuff like usernames, shipping address, etc. No passwords though, always type those from memory.

It appears the default is Nebula, which is what you get when you don't log in, and we are using DIY2Theme.
FWIW, if you can't paste with the mouse sometimes "Ctrl V" on the keyboard works.
I just tried it then and it works. I see what is happening with the mouse, the pull-down login thingy closes when you right click.
DIYTheme2 seems fine EXCEPT the "Like" button has turned bright off-red. Really burns spots in the page. Not sure why or how it got red. If that were fixed I'd have no urge to try other themes. My experience is that many "optional themes" are only half-baked for serious forum work. (Missing features, stupid-stuff like round avatars, mouse-sticks...)

interesting. my browser [Vivaldi] remembers my login names, so I come here and type "d" in the "name" box, and the list of duck names appears, I click arse and away I go. just tried it in pale moon, but it didn't do it. this might be because I haven't used that browse for this site, dunno.

I don't store anything in the browser, and dump everything upon exit. Persec, Opsec, Infosec, EEFIs. FOUO, Unclas EFTO.

When it comes to computers sometimes it doesn't pay to ask why ;D. I see the mildy twisted logic as: Ctrl+C for copy, but Ctrl+P was already taken for printing, so you just choose V, which is next to C. An once you start doing that it avalanches: You also have Ctrl X for cut which puts cut/copy/paste all next to each other on the keyboard.
Ctrl+V worked for logging in. These commands get confusing for me because I have a few different flight-sim games, and each of those has its own set of Ctrl+, Shift+, Alt+ keyboard commands. The more common ones are programmed into the joystick. Ctrl+V is probably a view command in some of them.

Yeah, I'm not fond of hot keys. They are only good for things you use everyday. For everything else it's total pain in the butt. The old DOS version of Microsoft word was a real pain and other words processors and editors all had their own key definitions - the bad old days really. IF you use an english version of MS programs. The shortcuts are regionalized as far as I know. in PT-BR the "save" command is Ctrl+B ("bold" in english versions). Ctrl+S is for "underline". Gets me everytime I have to use these programs is other people's computers.

Many of us learned to type on WordStar for CP/M, at a time when terminals did not have arrow-keys or F-keys. Or even two Ctrl keys. The WordStar meta commands clustered around the left hand.

I guess the root of the problem is treating speculation as fact.
A simple example is when you debug a circuit. You have to speculate what the problem is to get started. You do some checks to see if that is true. If it's true it gets fixed. If not you have to think of something else and dump the current thinking. The problem with historical issues is it's hard to get more data. It just becomes a lot of self fulfilling prophecies based on "logical" connections that never existed in the first place.
