Title: TS 808 volume to low
Post by: whomeno on August 11, 2018, 04:48:49 PM
ok guys
I built a ts 808 from tonepad. here is the layout file http://tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=81.when pedal is on the volume is real low. I probed it to resister  RA on the lay out on the feed side it is loud after it goes through the 100k it get real low to the output. checked solder joints the are fine. maybe to high a resistor? one side of 100k reads 3.24 after going through it it reads 2.96.

never mind every one I found my mistake. I put a 100k in instead of a 100 ohm. my stupid  luck.

It's happened to everyone here at least once. :icon_wink:

It's easy to get the colors mixed up, good light helps. I'm Glad you got the pedal working!  :icon_biggrin:

Dark purple and brown.  Red and orange.  CONSTANTLY getting confused.  Using 1/8W resistors doesn't help either.  I can't begin to imagine the possible mixups for those hobbyists attempting to use SMT components, where one doesn't even have the luxury of colour-codes to confirm values.

This is also where a DMM with capacitance-measurement comes in handy. I have plenty of small disc and even plastic caps where the value has been partly scratched off, or where the original printing was not centred properly, and half of the printed value is largely missing.

And, am I the only one here who has a hard time reading the value of 1% metal film resistors?  I don't mean the ones coming directly out of the labelled shipping bag, or the ones coming out of the labelled parts drawer, but the ones you had out on the workbench and meant to install 3 days ago but errands and chores got in the way.  Was that stripe to be read starting from this end or that one?

Carbon films are so much easier for me, because of the 4-band system and the fact that they usually end in gold instead of brown.  I come at this from tube amp world where I'm used to 5% carbon comps, and it's second nature for the more common values.  5-band 1% requires actual thought.
